Former Michigan State football long snapper commits to Nebraska

Michigan State football has officially lost its long snapper. On Sunday, former MSU long snapper Jack Wills announced on social media that he is transferring to another Big Ten school, Nebraska.

Wills was a 5-star long snapper and the top-rated long snapper in the transfer portal this cycle. Wills appeared in 12 games last year for the Spartans and will have three years of eligibility plus a potential redshirt year remaining.

While it may be an unheralded position on the football team, long snapper is a crucial position for the special teams unit. It’s also possible that the Spartans’ new special teams coordinator LeVar Woods may have a different idea of who he’d like in that role next year.

Michigan State has a good history of success with long snappers. Notably, former MSU long snapper Taybor Pepper is playing today in the NFL Playoffs with the San Francisco 49ers.
